The 13th Annual Komen Louisville Race for the Cure will take place Saturday morning, October 11, 2008 at Waterfront Park Festival Plaza. Our 5K Race is certified by USA Track & Field and Timing is conducted by Total Race Solutions. While many competitive runners compete in the 5K course, non-competitors run, jog and walk. Still others choose to walk the 1-Mile Family Walk.
For Race details, including costs and how to register online, please see: www.komenlouisville.org and select the Race tab at the top.
This year we are adding Timed Teams. A 4-person team may choose to be a timed-team and compete against other timed teams. An average of all team member's time results in the team's competitive time. All teams, whether timed or non-timed must register online. If online registration is impossible, team captains need to contact the Komen Louisville office: 502-584-2873.
Prior to the Race starting, we hold a Breast Cancer Survivor recognition and celebration program that will cause everyone to stop and think seriously about this disease, noting how important early detection and early treatment is to one's chances of surviving the disease. After the Race, there will be entertainment and a brief program. Join in the post-Race celebration to honor winners of the Race and the Fundraising challenge. Join Us. Be a Warrior for the Cure. Join the fight again breast cancer on October 11, 2008.
The Race for the Cure is the largest Komen Louisville fundraising event held during the year. Funds are used to fight breast cancer. In fact, up to 75% of the funds raised stay in our community funding local programs that provide breast cancer education, screening and treatment. The remaining 25% helps fund the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Research Grants and Award Program which funds breast cancer research that is trailblazing the paths to the cures.
This year great prizes will be given to the top three individual fundraisers. Within the Race Site, individuals may setup their own pledge site, inviting everyone they know to donate to the cause and their participation. Komen Louisville Warriors for the Cure are individuals who raise money to fight breast cancer. The top three fundraisers will win great prizes.
