The Out of the Darkness Community Walk is a 5k scenic walk through Louisville's Waterfront Park. Proceeds will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention,
to fund research, education, survivor and awareness programs - both to prevent suicide and to assist those affected by suicide. The six visiting members of the International Council of Thirteen Indigenous Grandmothers will offer prayers and a community ceremony to bless the Ohio River, our sacred source of life. Feel free to bring your own water samples collected locally or from anywhere in the world to offer as part of this ritual. Following the ceremony, participants will process to the Kentucky Center for the Arts, the location of the Grandmothers documentary film screening and discussion. The Friends of the Waterfront (FOTW), a non-profit auxiliary arm of the Waterfront Development Corporation, will be the recipient of a fundraiser day at the Tony Boombozz Taphouse on Wednesday, November 18, 2009. The Tony Boombozz Taphouse is located at the intersection of Bardstown Road and Eastern Parkway.
Friends of the Waterfront will receive proceeds when patrons present a flyer for dine in or carry out in between the hours of 11am – 4pm. Patrons must bring the flyer to the restaurant with them. It is available by contacting Kelley Lewis at the Waterfront Development Corporation or by downloading here: Boombozz Taphouse fundraising flyer. Don't forget to bring the flyer with you to turn in with your order!
There will also be a special beer, wine and pizza tasting event between the hours of 5:30pm – 7:30pm. Friends of the Waterfront will receive 100% of net proceeds and the price of admission is $15 per person.
The Friends of the Waterfront is an all volunteer, 501 c3 organization. Contributions to
Friends of the Waterfront are used for waterfront programs and projects such as:
- The Clean Team, a part time employment program for area students who play a critical role in season Waterfront Park Maintenance.
- The WFPK Waterfront Wednesday Concert Series.
- Catfish Louie Kids Zone at the Waterfront Independence Festival.
- Free Wireless Internet in Waterfront Park.
- Catfish Louie, the Louisville Waterfront Mascot.
- An educational curriculum guide for grades K-12 written by JCPS and used by public, private and parochial schools which facilitates hundreds of field trips to Waterfront Park annually.

Celebrate the holidays by visiting Christmas Tree Lane and purchasing your tree and holiday greenery a
t Waterfront Park.
Trees and greenery selections will include Scotch Pine, White Pine, Frazier Fir, Balsam Fir, Douglass Fir, and Spruce varieties from North Carolina, Michigan, Wisconsin, Nova Scotia and Vermont. Other items include wreaths, door charms, small trees, and garland.
Christmas Tree Lane is located on both sides of Witherspoon Street between Preston and Floyd Street. Free parking is available for customers along Witherspoon Street, in the Green Parking Lot at Waterfront Park (underneath 1-64 overpass near corner of River Road & Preston), and in the surface parking lot across from the Great Lawn.
