What does Abraham Lincoln mean to you?

The idea for "dressing" the Lincoln Memorial is based on his speech about "A House Divided." The hope in realizing the performance intervention is to call attention to his historical significance and encourage discussion of his contemporary significance through dressing him in a color divide and then unraveling this divide performatively with the help of the public.

The artist, Amy J. Klement (born in New Jersey), lives in Berlin, Germany and has already "dressed" two other monuments in Europe: Matka Polka (Mother Poland) in Ratibor, Poland, and the Trummerfrauendenkmal (monument to the women who removed the rubble after WW II) in Berlin, Germany, along with the help of more then 100 other passionate crocheters.
