The Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky (BIAK) and the Michael Quinlan Brain Tumor Foundation (MQBTF) are WALKING TOGETHER. BIAK raises awareness and funds to provide resources, support and advocacy to Kentuckians affected by brain injury and tumors. Funds raised at the Belvedere walk route will make a difference in the lives of 1 in 5 households in Kentucky affected by brain health issues.

Catfish LouieA walk with a unique perspective by combining Healthy Living, targeting downtown businesses, and support for Waterfront Park. The Friends of the Waterfront River Walk will start at the Red Parking Lot and will incorporate the new extended promenade into the RiverPark Place development. Walk length is 1.5 miles.

We encourage companies to gather as many employees as they can to come out and participate in a healthy lunch time activity with us. Entry fee for the walk is $30 per person and includes a commemorative T-shirt and healthy lunch for all participants who submit their $30 entry fee by May 16. Individuals are also welcome to participate and may collect donations to support the walker to help obtain the entry fee.

We will gladly accept any donations on our web site (www.friendsofthewaterfront.com) for those who cannot participate with us during the River Walk 2011.

Money raised by the Friends of the Waterfront River Walk will help support free community events like WFPK Waterfront Wednesday and the Fifth Third Bank Waterfront Independence Festival. Money will also help support free wi-fi in the park, park clean team, and other projects that help promote and encourage the use of Waterfront Park by our community.

Admission: $30 entry fee (includes commemorative T-shirt and a healthy lunch!); additional donations raised by walkers are very much appreciated!
Cash, check, and credit card are accepted.  Credit card payments can be made through PayPal on our website.

Our community will gather to join the fight against Crohn's & Colitis with a two mile stroll. We will be raising money for crucial research while raising awareness of the painful and unpredictible digestive diseases. 2012 Waterfront Heritage Walks with Historian Rick Bell

This free walking tour, led by local historian Rick Bell, will explore the history of Louisville’s riverfront and the development of today’s acclaimed Waterfront Park. Beginning at the Belle of Louisville’s landing at the Fourth Street wharf, the 90-minute tours will end at the Lincoln Memorial. Bell will describe the riverfront’s importance to the growth of Louisville from its founding during the American Revolution, through its glory days during the Steamboat Era, to its renaissance as one of the world’s most successful maritime recreational parks.

The tour will start on the wharf in front of the Belle of Louisville and will conclude at the Lincoln Memorial. Free parking is available in the park. A convenient location would be the Green Lot - park and follow the signs to walk to the Belle of Louisville. (see map for locations of the Belle, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Green Lot). The total walking distance from your car, through the tour, and back to your car is approximately 2 miles.

Walkers will have an opportunity to purchase Bell's book, Louisville's Waterfront Park - A Riverfront Renaissance, by paying for it at the Belle of Louisville and then collecting it at the end of the tour and having it signed by the author.

Suggestion: Wear your comfortable walking shoes and bring drinking water and sunscreen.

Additional tours will be offered in June, July, September and October.

Morris dancing is a tradition of folk dancing with its origins in the Cotswold region of England. today, Morris dancing is done worldwide. In the United States, there are several dozen teams of dancers. The teams located in the Midwest and Moutain States gather together every Memorial Day weekend to dance together and renew friendships. This annual gathering IS the Midwest Morris Ale!

This year, the Midwest Morris Ale is being held in the Metro Louisville area. Morris dancers will perform in the downtown area throughout the day on May 26, converging on the Harbor Lawn at approximately 3:30pm for a "mass dance" featuring all morris teams in attendance. The community is invited to come to the Harbor Lawn and watch the dancing.

Volunteers will form the letters "USA" using 25,000 flags from veterans' graves. When completed, the letters will each be 150' high and all 3 letters together will be 450' wide. These 25,000 flags honor all of America's fallen heroes, from every state in the Union, including military, law enforcement, and fire fighters. This event will culminate with a Memorial Day observance presided over by Mayor Greg Fischer and will follow in conjunction with the Mayor's Healthy Hometown Memorial Day Hike and Bike. The public is invited to assist with placing the flags beginnning on Saturday, May 26 and continuing through the weekend until all 25,000 flags have been placed. A Memorial Day ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 26 at noon.

2012 marks the eleventh year of Louisville’s most popular after work concert series!  Once again, the Waterfront Development Corporation and Louisville Public Media are working together to offer free concerts on the Big Four Lawn featuring national and local artists.  Concerts take place on the last Wednesday of every month, April through September. There is a cash bar and great upscale festival food.   

Outside food and alcohol are prohibited. No coolers, no glass & no pets allowed in the event area of the Big Four Lawn. For more information, please call 814-6500.  Lawn chairs and blankets are encouraged. 

Parking: Parking lots are highlighted on this Parking Map. In the park itself, the Blue Parking Lot (Wharf Parking) is paid parking; all other park lots are free. Lots adjacent to the park are paid parking.
